Early Life and Torah Education
Rabbi Moshe Yehoshua was born in Grosswardein (Oradea), Romania, in 1916. His father, Rabbi Chaim Meir Hager, the “Imrei Chaim,” was the Rebbe of Vizhnitz, and his family lineage was steeped in Torah and Hasidic leadership.
From a young age, Rabbi Moshe Yehoshua demonstrated a profound dedication to Torah study. He learned in renowned yeshivot, where he gained a reputation for his sharp intellect and deep understanding of Jewish texts.
Surviving the Holocaust
During the Holocaust, Rabbi Moshe Yehoshua and his family endured unimaginable challenges. Despite the horrors, he emerged with unwavering faith and a commitment to rebuild Jewish life. This period shaped his leadership, inspiring him to dedicate his life to the spiritual and physical revival of the Jewish people.
Becoming the Rebbe
In 1972, following the passing of his father, Rabbi Moshe Yehoshua was appointed Rebbe of Vizhnitz. Under his leadership, the Vizhnitz Hasidic community flourished, both spiritually and numerically. He established yeshivot, synagogues, and institutions to support Torah study and Hasidic life. His personal warmth and care for every individual made him beloved by his followers.
