Rabbi Shmuel Wosner zt”l – A Torah Giant of Our Generation
Rabbi Shmuel Wosner zt”l (1913–2015) was one of the most renowned Torah scholars of the 20th century. Born in Vienna, Austria, he emigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1938 and became a pillar of Jewish halachic and spiritual leadership. Rabbi Wosner served as the author of the influential Shevet Halevi, a multi-volume series of responsa that continues to guide Jewish communities worldwide.
Early Life and Torah Scholarship

Leadership in Bnei Brak
After moving to Bnei Brak, Rabbi Wosner established the Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin, named after his alma mater in Poland. For decades, he led the yeshiva, teaching thousands of students and mentoring countless rabbis and community leaders. His halachic rulings, compassion, and practical wisdom earned him the title “Posek Hador” (halachic authority of the generation).
